Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama: New

gate-webimage

The Richard Burton Company present 4 NEW commissions, written and directed by some of the UK’s most promising new playwrights.  We guarantee they will have something to say...

Play 1 : Spring Awakening

written by Gary Owen directed by Ellen McDougall

Gary Owen speeds Wedekind’s provocative and notorious play into the present, where sex offers an incendiary narrative to young lives already at risk in a dangerous world they cannot control.

Play 2 : Pomona

written by Alistair McDowall directed by Ned Bennett
In collaboration with the Royal Court

‘I think I’d sleep a lot easier if I knew none of us would wake up tomorrow.’
Travelling to Manchester to find her missing sister, a young woman glimpses the unspeakable horror lying under the surface of contemporary urban life.
A 21st Century Nightmare

Play 3: VS09

written by Hayley Squires directed by Darren Lawrence
In collaboration with the Royal Court

‘You have to have hope. Consistent and un-floundering hope. You have to. Otherwise we will all just probably stop living.’
Boarding begins in one hour, just enough time for a last meal on British soil. 7 people in an airport restaurant have 60 minutes to decide if they’re coming, going or staying. VS09 explores the possibilities of love, friendship and healing in the search for home.

Play 4:  Blister

written by Laura Lomas directed by Stef O’Driscoll
In collaboration with Paines Plough

'If I could give you all the blood in my body... go back...make it undone... undo what happened, I would do.'
One day. One mistake.  Seven lives sent spiralling.
From service stations to sea fronts. Blister examines the pressures that can explode in a single moment and its ripple effects through a galaxy of lives.
