Wofai Je is our Interim General Manager.

Wofai joined the Gate in mid 2021 as a Creative Producer to cast 32 actors for our Dear Elizabeth @ Theatro Technis run. He’s a member of Stage ONE Producers programme; one half of award-winning arts organisation Initiative.dkf (Albany Artists of Change 2021, Tamasha Associate Artists 2019-20, Talawa MAKE: Sustain Artists 2017-18); and was a member of the Young Vic Introduction to Directing Programme 2016, led by Gbolahan Obisesan. Going on to be hand-picked for their Springboard scheme led by Ria Parry. Also an established model, Wofai specialises in visuals and aesthetics.

What brought you to general management?

I fell into it… Which seems to be a bit of a pattern for me so far. I am foremost a (Creative) Producer but as a freelancer I always wanted to learn more about the ins and outs of running a building. So this pivot into the interim General Manager role is a welcome one.

What made you want to work for the Gate?

I’ve always admired the amount of opportunities the Gate tends to provide – so many artists first professional credits have been through the venue. I wanted to be a part of that.

What are your top three values?

Authenticity, introspection, openness.

What do you hope to achieve in your new role?

I want to facilitate a safe space for collaboration, learning, and development.

What’s a show you’ll never forget?

Blue/Orange, by Joe Penhall, directed by Matthew Xia @ Young Vic (2016).
