Gate Late Live: Home – Open Mic Night with Dean Atta

Dean atta banner 2

Hosted and curated by Dean Atta, join us for a live sharing of poetry from artists across the world, live on Instagram.

Why did I never miss you until you returned?

This Gate Late Live is inspired by the Gate’s future production of Omeros by Nobel Prize-winning poet Derek Walcott, adapted and directed by Elayce Ismail. Omeros is an epic poem that reimagines the characters of Homer’s Iliad journeying from Saint Lucia to Africa, exploring what it means to return home.

Dean Atta, our host, will also read from his own work: his most recent book, The Black Flamingo, is the recipient of the Stonewall Book Award 2020, shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal and the YA Book Prize and longlisted for the Jhalak Prize. He was shortlisted for the Polari First Book Prize for his debut poetry collection, I Am Nobody’s N****r. His poems deal with themes of race, gender, identity and growing up, and have appeared on BBC One, BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service and Channel 4.

Featuring:

Jessica Norman
Andrés Nicolás Ordorica
Christy Ku
Stavros Anagnou
Melanie Hangman
Sean Wai Keung
