The new play by Moroccan journalist, writer and dramatist Driss Ksikes is translated from the French by Nicolas Rouget-Divet, adapted by Patrick Conway and directed by Marianne Badrichani.
A contemporary re-writing of the Oedipus complex about solitude, revolution and football. Moussa is a disillusioned ex-trade unionist, leaving prison. His son Ali spends all of his time on the internet. A battle of words and silence takes place, while the national football team plays a historic match.
Badrichani was chosen by the National Theatre Studio to develop an extract from The Match. This is the first full reading of the play, followed by a post-show Gate Debate with the artistic team. the Gate Theatre is proud to be part of this year's Nour Festival: The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's festival reflecting the best in contemporary art, film, literature, music and performance from the Middle East and North Africa.
