Shubbak: Working Method | نظرية اشتغال مسرحي

Working method new website banner

Can art really save the world?

Enkidu Khaled fled Baghdad in 2008. His award-winning show is a unique form of creative exchange. Based on traumatic events he witnessed years back, he invites the audience to join him in analysing and simplifying the complex process of making theatre from personal experience. In four easy steps he creates a new performance every night, showing how memory, association and tiny fragment of ideas can become a story and how simple decisions can have devastating effect. The name Enkidu means ‘reason’: his method is trying to make sense.

Part lecture, part performance, part workshop, Working Method moves seamlessly from the lightest conversation to emotional punch. Engaging honest, it questions how life and theatre interact.

Enkidu Khaled studied theatre in Baghdad, before settling and working in Belgium.

Find out more about Working Method, read the interview with Enkidu Khaled.

Why not double up your evening? On 11 July, some of the most exciting Arab/British artists making work right now will join us for a Gate Late to discuss what it means to make work in Europe as an Arab artist in these 'interesting' times. Find out more: Shubbak: Writing in Europe: experiences, opportunities and risks.
